Here's this week's news. Hope I'm not missing too much!
Firstly, thanks to those parents who've been able to come in this week to discuss their child's English and Maths results. You're making a hugely positive influence on your child's learning. As you all know, YOU are the most important teachers in your children's lives, and I know that this class is blessed with such supportive, caring, and encouraging parents.
Secondly, we were all delighted to hear that a school in Tallaght picked two of our class's
writers as winners of the Write-A-Book Competition. Congratulations to Tami and to Abbie C. Fantastic writing!
Winners of this week's Talbot's Got Talent competition--with beautiful voices singing a gorgeous song just right--were Kerri, Courtney, and Abbie C! They had to be on their game to beat lots of other talented contestants!
And of course a massive well done to the whole class--we won the 3rd class Basketball Blitz! (Well, it's not that hard to win when you have MICHAEL & JORDAN on your team!) But also a massive well done to you, the families, for your generous support of the charity, the truly poor school run by Sr Catherine's fellow nuns in a township near Jo'burg: You gave a total of €277 from just this class.
Next week is the final of the School Ten-Finger Typing Competition--Really EVERYONE in the class is good at using all ten fingers to type fast and accurately. If we want our class to win the prize, the best way to spend rainy half-hours is on www.typingweb.com (Go to 'Intermediate Course' and then 'Most Common English Words'--that's what we'll be asking every child to type in the final.)
Next week too is, of course, the School Play. It will be fun. The class have worked hard and well at getting better and better. You'll enjoy it; they'll enjoy it. Hope you come along if you can. We are on Thursday night. Get your tickets before they sell out, really!
Good news about our trip into town on Monday, 29th June (the last Monday of the school year). We ARE able to go. NOBODY can be late--we'll be going straight from the line to the bus stop. Please try to have your child come earlier than usual, just to make sure he or she doesn't miss the bus and the fun! Anyone late will have to stay in another class doing work, while everyone else is enjoying themselves on the bus, or walking through Trinity, or on a tour of the National Gallery, or touring town, or on the bus home!
Second last thing... a website of great fun and some learning too... one they love when they're in computer class... www.poissonrouge.com Have fun!
Lastly, what about this class and www.mathletics.com! As of today, this class is 3rd place in ALL of IRELAND!! A massive congratulations to each child, all of whom helped make it happen. It's an amazing achievement.
