General Website:
Art:
- For practicing drawing: http://www.unclefred.com/
- and the artist we were due to cover this Thursday, Jackson Pollock: www.jacksonpollock.org/
- From A Huge Range of Books (online, for free), and the kids know too how to download eBooks and Audio Books, also for free: www.southdublinlibraries.ie/childrens-zone
- While this website might be a bit hard for most, they'll be shown it a fair bit over the next four years so why not look at it now. You can even write online in it now. The class have already covered 'reports' and we're doing 'procedures' in class at the moment, so they may want to look at those sections first: www.writingfun.com
- We're learning about 'Time' at the moment, and the best website I've found where someone can learn pretty much by themselves is http://www.wmnet.org.uk/wmnet/custom/files_uploaded/uploaded_resources/503/clock.swf
- For good general maths fun, try the BBC site the kids love: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/maths/number/
- And here is the lists of the most common words in English, handily divided up into 20 words in a list. We've covered five or six of them so far in class. You or someone could test your child on them and any they don't know they'd need to write into their Spellings Notebooks, which they should have in their school bags. www.theschoolbell.com/Links/Dolch/basic_lists/List1.html
Of course, these websites aren't just for now but also for anytime you want. I hope you enjoy them as much as the kids will!
Remember, let me know if there's any way I can use this blog to support you with your child. I was heartened by the feedback some of you gave me at the parent-teacher meetings that you found this useful; that really pleases me. And so I'll get back to being busy with it. Just let me know how I can help.
Best to you,
Martin
